Wolves swimmers finish 2nd during weekend

The Green River High School boys swimming team traveled to Cheyenne and came home with a second-place finish.

On Friday, the team competed in duals at Cheyenne Central and beat them in the duals.

Head coach Colleen Seiloff said duals are scored differently than invites and so it’s hard to tell how the team is going to do. The most a team can score in an event is three people. Sometimes the teams can beat another team at an invite, but not at a dual and vice versa.

On Saturday, the team competed in the Cheyenne South Invite and took second place with 213 points. Thunder Basin took first with 240, while Kelly Walsh grabbed third with 206.

“I was really happy with the way they are swimming right now,” Seiloff said.

The team is really tired and some have been fighting colds and the flu, but they are powering through and doing the best they can.

Some of the team’s top swimmers had some time drops this weekend, while others on the team also saw time improvements.

The team will travel to Lyman to compete on Friday and will then compete at home on Saturday. Saturday will be a special meet because the seniors will be recognized and it is also the last home meet for the Wolves.

As for preparing for the meets, she said she it’s all about getting those details down so more swimmers can qualify for state.

Green River will host Sublette County, Rock Springs, Kemmerer and Lyman at its meet.

“It’s nice to have two short trips,” Seiloff said about Lyman. “It’s basically like staying at home.”

Seiloff said it will be nice to have a break from the long bus rides.

Seiloff said it’s hard to believe there is only about five weeks left in the season, but the season is only 12 weeks long.

She said the team will continue to work hard for the remainder of the season and she’s hoping even more swimmers will qualify for state.
