Mary M. Sundeen, 100, resident of Lakota, N.D., died Jan. 1, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Mary Mae Cole was born May 20, 1917, at Doyon, N.D., the daughter of Frank and Ann (Nixon) Cole.
She attended Hope Consolidated School in Southam, N.D., and graduated from Southam High School in 1933. Mary married James Sundeen on March 9, 1934.
To this marriage, Marlys and Gemia were born. James died Aug. 28, 1938. Mary married Nils Sundeen Dec. 23, 1941. To this marriage, Norris, Dennis, Terrence, and Darell were born.
The couple farmed together in the Brocket, N.D., area before moving to Lakota in the early 1980s. Nils died July 9, 1984. Mary worked for Nelson County Social Services as a Homemaker for 20 years, and also was the site manager for senior meals for many years. She was a member of United Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid at Brocket. Mary enjoyed her time spent traveling, playing cards, knitting, and crocheting.
Mary is survived by four children; Marlys Langton of Liberty, Mo., Norris (Sharyn) Sundeen of St. Helens, Ore., Dennis (Bonnie) Sundeen of Grand Forks, N.D., and Terry (Emma) Sundeen of Green River; daughter-in-law, Jan Sundeen of Lakota; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; son, Darell; daughter, Gemia Monge; granddaughter, Shelly Hackert; grandson, Jim Overby; six brothers and five sisters.
The funeral services took place United Lutheran Church, Brocket, N.D., Jan. 8, 2018. Officiating was be the Reverend Jodi Myrvik. The pianist was be Dorine Severtson and the soloist will be Sonja Messner. Interment will be in the spring at the Hoff Cemetery, rural Brocket. The casketbearers were be Jerry Johnson, Lynn Johnson, Roger Perkuhn, Randy Sundeen, Barry Sundeen, Sheldon Severtson, and Vernon Kelly.
