The Green River City Council approved a retail liquor license Tuesday night for a bar and grill set to open in the city in early February.
The license is for the Town Bar and Grill, which will be located at the old OT’s Sports Bar location at 95 East Railroad Drive. Buckley Hubert, the proprietor, said he aims to bring a nonsmoking, pub-like restaurant to Green River. He anticipates the restaurant to open Feb. 1.
Hubert said he picked the location because it’s already an established location for a restaurant. The building has been host to a number of restaurants over the years, including Stacy Ann’s Cafe, JLT Steakhouse and Embers.
Hubert, a Green River resident since 1996, also owns and operates Buck’s Heating and Air Conditioning, a Rock Springs-based business he has operated since 1992. One of the reasons Hubert said he wants to open a restaurant is due to age and the difficulties he has while working with his heating and air conditioning business. Hubert said one of his sons plans to take over his other business as he involves himself with Town Bar and Grill.
The liquor license granted to Hubert’s business will only be until the end of March. According to Chris Meats, the city’s finance director, retail liquor licenses are typically issued and renewed each April, which necessitates the temporary liquor permit for Town Bar and Grill. With this license, the city has four more free retail liquor licenses to issue. Meats said the licenses numbers are set by the state and issued based on a city’s population. Of those four licenses, one is being held for a specific purpose. Meats said the one license is reserved for a grocery store, should a company decide to bring one to Green River.
