Fun had by GR children in 2017

The beginning of 2017 came with cold and snow, but that didn't stop Green River children from having fun.

In January, students in Sweetwater County were enjoying going back to school after Christmas break. Students were wearing snow pants, hats, scarfs, gloves, boots and heavy winter coats to fight the cold.

Throughout the year, toddlers enjoyed the Sweetwater County Library's toddler time, which is an early literacy program for toddlers.

Children also participated in many activities last year, including dancing, painting, building catapults and various activities that were featured on the kids page.

In April, the students learned how to help the environment when they attended the city's Earth Day event. During this event, students used old T-shirts to make new, fashionable items, they built bird feeders and looked at a monster made entirely out of cans. They also played games with old bike tires and plastic bottles.

In May, high school and kindergarten students graduated. Although their is a big age difference, the reactions are the same. Some students are nervous, while others are overly excited.

In June, Sweetwater County children enjoyed all the children's events Flaming Gorge Days had to offer.

From bounce houses and slides to the parade and sporting events, the children had a great time. Flaming Gorge Days is also a great time for children to try some of their favorite treats, including shaved ice and popcorn.

When kids weren't busy attending events, they were most likely enjoying Green River's Splash Park to cool off or visiting one of the many great parks in town.

During the summer, a lot of children took advantage of the classes offered by the Sweetwater County Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

BOCES offers a wide range of classes for all different age groups, including camping, biking, pirates day, fairy land day and obstacle courses.

Wrapping up the summer for the kids, was the Sweetwater County Fair. Whether the children were there to show their livestock or 4-H projects or to enjoy everything the fair had to offer, they had a good time.

One last big event in Green River was the River Festival and Art on the Green event. Children enjoyed learning how to create art, while watching real artists work.

In October, children participated in the city's annual Trunk or Treat and explored the Union Congregational United Church of Christ's pumpkin patch.

In November, Monroe Intermediate School students honored local veterans with its annual Veteran's Day program. The Lincoln Middle School auditorium was packed with veterans, their families and students honoring them.

In December, students participated in all sort of Christmas programs and activities before Christmas break.
