$1,000 burbot raffle returns

Fishermen are going after those invasive burbot and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Green River office has received its first fish tagged with a pink burbot raffle tag.

The tags, colored pink, are part of a popular Fontenelle Burbot Raffle hosted by the Upper Bear River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, which sponsors a $1,000 raffle.

There’s no fee to participate in the raffle, fishermen only need to catch a burbot with a pink “2018 Burbot Raffle” Floy tag. The tags act as tickets for the drawing. Fishermen catching a tagged burbot should call the WGFD phone number printed on the tag and a WGFD employee will instruct the angler where to mail the tag and the contact information needed to enter the drawing. Once the tag and information is received, the fisherman is entered into the drawing.

The raffle will run until the closing ceremonies of the La Barge Ding the Ling Burbot Derby Feb. 11, 2018. Only pink 2018 tags submitted before then are eligible. The $1,000 will be drawn during the derby’s closing ceremonies. Fishermen entered into the drawing need not be present to win the prize.

“Burbot fishing at Fontenelle is going to keep getting better this fall and winter,” Green River Fisheries Biologist Troy Laughlin said in a release from the WGFD. “Sixty Burbot were tagged for the 2018 Burbot Raffle and all but one of those tagged fish are still in the reservoir waiting to be caught by you. So make plans to spend several nights fishing Fontenelle Reservoir for burbot and start fishing right away because that lucky bite from a tagged fish could happen at any moment.”
