The Green River Lady Wolves swimming team is gearing up for state this weekend with a goal in mind.
Top three. That’s the place the Lady Wolves set for a goal at the beginning of the season and that’s still what they would like to bring home after state competition this weekend, head coach Colleen Seiloff said.
In a last effort to try and qualify more swimmers, the Lady Wolves attended a last chance meet Thursday hosted in Green River.
“It went fine.” Seiloff said. “We don’t score that meet. It’s purely for qualifying.”
One swimmer qualified in an additional event, but no other swimmers qualified.
“We have a strong crew going to state,” she said.
Seiloff will have to come up with a line up and try to predict what all the other teams are going to do. It’s a guessing game really.
“I think they are excited and nervous and hoping they will go to state and do well,” she said.
During this week, she wants the Lady Wolves to keep positive thoughts and stay healthy before state, which will take place in Gillette Friday and Saturday.
The teams Seiloff believes are going to bring the biggest competition are Laramie, Sheridan, Thunder Basin and Cheyenne Central.
“You just never know what will happen at state,” Seiloff said. “Laramie have a tradition of swimming like crazy.”
“There are some strong teams out there and they’ll put up a fight,” she said.
Regardless of the outcome at state, Seiloff said it was a fun season and she sure enjoyed watching the Lady Wolves swim hard and celebrate their accomplishments.
