Season starts strong for Wolves

Wish a commanding victory over the Lander Tigers, the Green River High School varsity football team is off to a strong start.

Head coach Don Maggi said he’s happy with how much the team has worked since starting practices Aug. 9.

“We’ve gotten a little better with each practice,” Maggi said.

The team’s offensive line has improved a lot over the past few weeks and quarterback Chance Hofer has played well during the jamboree with Mountain View, as well as their first game against Lander, he said.

This year, Hofer has a few options to pick from when it comes to making an offensive play.

Running backs Candon Croft, Kyle Ivie and James King will rotate the ball handling duties, with Croft being the primary player in the group.

“(Croft) is a very physical runner,” Maggi said. “He does a lot for the team.”

With Ivie, Maggi said he brings a different approach to the position, often going for more lateral movement during plays.

Maggi said it’s beneficial for the team to have two different running backs in the mix during a game. That mix ultimately opens up more possibilities for the team.

When talking about the freshman King, Maggi said he plans to keep in the rotation the season, saying he has a bright future in the program.
