Lady Wolves start season strong

The Green River High School Lady Wolves Volleyball Team kicked off the season with several non conference wins.

The Lady Wolves took home the tournament win in the Gold Championship Bracket at the Cokeville Tournament, which took place Sept 25-26, and were the Campbell County Volleyball Tournament Bronze Bracket Champions this past weekend.

During the first couple of games at the Campbell County Tourney, the Lady Wolves needed to settle down.

“They seemed like they thought they needed to play perfect in order to beat (Cheyenne) East,” Shantz said. “They played tight. Against Sundance, they relaxed and played Green River volleyball.” 

This was the third game in the tournament. Shantz said the team needs to work on its defensive play, but its offense was potent.

“We are improving every day,” Shantz said. “They are hard workers and I know we can build to be great by the end of the season.” 

The team will work on its defense and passing and serving the ball before its first conference game this week, which will be a tough one since they will be taking on their biggest rivals — the Rock Springs Lady Tigers.

Shantz is hoping the team will take advantage of having it on their own court and is encouraging fans to show the team support.

“We would love to have a huge crowd to support these amazing athletes,” Shantz said. “They are worth watching. Green River volleyball has something special this year.” 

Thursdays game will take place at home at 6 p.m.
