All-State, All-Conference soccer players named

Three Green River Lady Wolves Soccer players were named to All-Conference and one was named to All-State last week.

Head coach Tracy Wyant said the Lady Wolves usually have five to as many as eight girls named to All-Conference, but this year, they had three. It speaks to how well the whole west conference is improving, which is something Wyant said is needed.

“The competition is a little more fierce than it used to be,” Wyant said.

It shows the whole west conference is improving, which is something Wyant hopes will continue. The east conference has dominated soccer for several years, and if the west continues to improve, then it can be more competitive against the east.

Still, it’s nice for Lady Wolves Chezney Mamalis, Alisha Sing and Taylor Stoeger to be named to All-Conference.

“Obviously they stood out. They worked hard,” Wyant said.

For All-Conference, players are nominated by other Wyoming soccer coaches. Wyant said she isn’t allowed to vote for her own players.

Six forwards, eight defenders, eight mid fielders and three goalies are named to All-Conference and All-State. Kelly Walsh has quite a few named to the All-Conference this year, which didn’t surprise Wyant since they were a strong team.

Wyant said All-Conference is not only based on stats, but those players who stand out to other coaches.

“They’re players who’ve harassed your team,” Wyant said.

All season long, Wyant continued to tell her girls that if they wanted All-Conference or All-State, they would have to leave an impression on the other coaches.

“Alisha had a great year,” Wyant said.

“Chezney is always where they ball is at,” Wyant said. “She works hard.”

This year Lady Wolf Stoeger was picked for All-State. This is Stoeger’s fourth year earning the title. In order to be named to All-State, the player must have made All-Conference.

Stoeger has been a stand out player for four years in a row, not only in soccer, but volleyball and basketball. Wyant said she is a 12-time high-school letter winner in the three sports.

“She’s got passion. She’s got dedication. She’s got drive,” Wyant said.

All of these things are good qualities to have, but what may be her best quality is how she handles her talent.

“She’s humble too,” Wyant said. “There’s no ego. She’ll put the team first and she’s not a big fan of being the center of attention.”

Stoeger, who is a senior, will be missed by all three teams.

“She’s been the core for a long time,” Wyant said.

Stoeger just had a way of building up the team she’s playing on.

“It’s not just because she’s a key player, but how she represents herself,” Wyant said.

Boys soccer players named All-Conference were Christian Alatorre, Kalen Kester, Chase Stoeger, Gregory Marchal and Patrick Marchal. Kester and the Marchal brothers were named All-State.
