It's do or die time for the Green River High School Boys Soccer Team.
In their upcoming game against Jackson Thursday at Kelly Walsh, a victory will advance the Wolves to the state tournament in Casper, while a defeat will end their season. The Wolves have been victorious over the Broncs during their last two meetings, with a 3-1 win April 17, and a 2-1 overtime win April 29.
Scoring a third win against the Broncs means the Wolves will have to bounce back from two defeats in the last week. Tuesday, the Wolves lost to their rivals from Rock Springs 2-1 in a match that went into overtime. Green River bounced back during a Friday visit to Natrona County High School, winning 2-1 over the Mustangs.
That victory was the result of goals made by Haden Counts and a penalty kick by Patrick Marchal.
However, the Wolves were handed a second defeat by Kelly Walsh in a single-score game Saturday. The score by Kelly Walsh occurred during the last 3 minutes of play.
Head coach Chris Bieber said Kelly Walsh and Rock Springs are the top competitors going into the regional tournament this weekend, with Kelly Walsh having the home-field advantage.
Bieber said the Wolves' play at regionals will come down to how they are mentally when they run out to the field Thursday and not allowing late-game scores.
If they overcome that, Bieber believes the team can excel.
"There's no doubt in my mind they can take regionals," Bieber said. "We got to show up."
