Nine teams from Southwest Wyoming came to host Green River for competition on the Wolves' home turf.
Teams participating came from Rock Springs, Evanston, Lander, Pinedale, Lyman, Big Piney, Hanna-Elk Mountain, Farson/Eden and Encampment.
The teams competed last Friday in strong winds and cold weather not the ideal weather for great times and distances.
Green River's exceptional performances on the day came from top four finishers Lauren Hoyt, who placed fourth in the 100 meters, Mariyah Brady, who placed third in the 100-meter hurdles and Erika Wilson, who was second in the high jump and third in the long jump for the Lady Wolves.
For the boys, top four finishers included Kyle Cacho, second in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters, Braden Reichel, third in the 400 meters, Miles Moffatt, second in the 800-meter run and Chance Hofer, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
In the field events, Cacho took third in the long jump at 19'-11".50, with Chance Hofer close behind at 19'7." The best mark of the day belonged to senior Drew Wilson who went 41'1.50" in the triple jump for fourth place. Hunter Spartz continued to dominate Southwest Wyoming throwers with two first-place finishes in the shot put and the discus, though the weather dramatically affected these two events. Teammate Nick Boldt finished second in the discus with a good throw of 121'08".
Head coach Dan Hansen noted that it was once again was good experience for the young team, but the weather prevented most from improving on their season's best.
On Saturday, a number of team members traveled South to Morgan, Utah, to take on 22 teams from Utah, Wyoming and Idaho. Braden Reichel was the only Wolf to win his event, taking first in the boys 3,200 meters with a time of 9:54.72. Cacho ran a good 400 meters, finishing 13th with a time of 53.24 in a fast field. Hoyt was one of the top finishers for the Lady Wolves, taking second in the long jump at 15'4.25" and Natasha Young got of one of her best throws of the season in the shot put, throwing 34'06.50" for sixth place. Young came back in the discus for her best double of the season throwing 108' for seventh place.
The girls finished 10th on the day as a team in the field of 17 schools who scored, while the boys finished 13th in the field of 22 schools.
Again, Hansen was happy that the competitors had some good weather to compete in and was pleased by some of the back-to-back meet performances.
