Green River High School senior Taylor Stoeger has decided to continue playing soccer at the junior college level, recently signing with Laramie County Community College.
During a short letter-of-intent signing ceremony Thursday, Stoeger’s soccer coach, Tracy Wyant, joked about not wanting Stoeger to go.
“I think maybe we should hold her back,” Wyant said.
Wyant said Stoeger has been a leader, captain and play maker for the Lady Wolves, serving as a core member of her team. Wyant said the team will take a hit next year with Stoeger’s absence, but believes Stoeger will be able to play with other athletes at her level.
“You are going to thrive,” Wyant said.
Stoeger has a reputation as an athlete in Utah and Wyoming, saying regardless of if the sport is soccer, volleyball or basketball, coaches talk about her, Wyant said.
Stoeger said her letter of intent is only for soccer, but is interested in playing other sports if given the opportunity. Stoeger plans to start studying speech pathology while at LCCC, but doesn’t know where she plans to transfer to at the end of her time at the community college.
Stoeger said she has played soccer since she was three years old, getting into competitive play when she was seven. Stoeger has been a key member of the Lady Wolves volleyball and basketball teams. While she enjoys playing those sports, Stoeger said soccer is what she’s most passionate about.
“I just like to compete,” Stoeger said.
