Girls breeze past RS

The Green River High School Lady Wolves Soccer team took a bite out of their biggest rivals for another win.

On Saturday the Lady Wolves traveled to Rock Springs to take on the Lady Tigers. It was a close, tough game, but in the end the Lady Wolves came out on top 2-1.

Head coach Tracy Wyant said the team worked hard all week to prepare for the game and it paid off.

“We want to be diversified in our attack,” Wyant said. “When we have opportunities we want to capitalize on them.”

Prior to going into the rivalry game, Wyant told the team not to underestimate or overestimate the Lady Tigers. She also told them the team with the most heart, passion and endurance is the team that is going to walk away with the win.

“They’re a quality team,” Wyant said. “The west conference is improving. I really like what’s going on in the west conference.”

She said with all of the teams improving in the west conference, the games are going to get tougher for the Lady Wolves. However, Wyant said this is exactly what the west conference needs in order to get to that east conference’s level of competitiveness.

Wyant was happy with the way her team played against the Lady Tigers.

“For the first time in a long time they played for the entire 80 minutes,” Wyant said.

She said the Lady Wolves didn’t have a slow start, nor did they let down in the second half of the game.

“They didn’t give up,” Wyant said. “They didn’t get rattled.”

“You have to battle for 80 minutes,” she said. “That’s what the west conference needs to be able to compete with the east conference.”

For the upcoming games against Evanston and Jackson this weekend, the Lady Wolves are going to continue to use the formation they used during the last couple of games.

“Right now this is working for us,” she said.

Leading the Lady Wolves was Taylor Stoeger with two goals. She was assisted by America Zarate.

Wyant said Stoeger is known across the state and due to that she is double covered at every game and at times she is triple covered.

Wyant said they are working to get other players ready to take advantage of that.

If other teams are going to cover her like that, then the team will have someone else make the goal, she said.

In the previous game against Jackson, the Lady Wolves came out on top 4-2. Stoeger scored two goals and the other two were scored by Raena Finch and Carly Kettering.
