Center to host Easter Carnival

Those who are looking for something for their kids to do over spring break won’t have to look far since there’s an Easter Carnival right in town.

The best part is the Easter Carnival is indoors so regardless of what the weather might be children can still have a good time.

The Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center will host the carnival, which is open to the public, Friday, April 14, from 10 a.m. until noon. Last year, about 200 residents attended the event and this year the center is expecting about 250 to 300.

“The kids view the residents as their adopted grandparents and the residents view the kids as their own grandkids,” Activities Director Heidi Schuh said. “They get to do crafts together and games together. It is beneficial for both child and resident. It really bridges the gap between generations.” 

Some of the activities the children can participate include, Easter Bingo, pin the tail on the bunny, bean-bag toss, cupcake walk, kids’ crafts, raffles and a visit with the Easter Bunny. Children will also have the chance to have their photo taken with the bunny.

Not only is the event fun for families, it’s great for the residents too.

“They get to interact with the kids and the public which always brings them joy.  They will be helping with the games so it gives them validation,” Schuh said.

“All proceeds from the raffle baskets go to our Residents Activity Fund to help fund bigger activities like our annual fishing trip and the fair later in the year.”

Those who attend the event will not only have the chance to participate in some fun activities, but they can look at the facility.

“They will also have a sneak peek at our newly remodeled Assisted Living Community as that is where Easter Bingo will take place,” Schuh said.

Those who can’t make it to the event, but still want a shot at one of the great raffle baskets can just stop by the facility and buy a ticket.

“We already have the raffle baskets out and tickets are available at the front office for purchase,” Schuh said. “We have received several basket donations from our amazing, supportive community.”

Residents who would like to help can do so by donationing cakes or cupcakes for the cupcake walk. Schuh said all they need to do is bring the cake or cupcakes to the front office.
