Mark Lamonte "Mont" Mecham, 67, of Shelley, Idaho, passed away peacefully April 3, 2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 29, 1949, to Oren and Udeen Palmer Mecham of Firth, Idaho. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Keller, of Shelley, Idaho. They welcomed a daughter, Donna, and a son, Mark.
Mont began his law enforcement career in 1970 at the Shelley Police Department. In 1976, Mont became the chief deputy of the Bingham County Sheriff's Office. In 1980, he moved his family to Green River, and became Lieutenant of the Green River Police Department.
Mont was the Wyoming Police Officer of the year in 1996. He retired in 2003 and moved home to Shelley.
He loved hunting, fishing and woodworking in his shop.
Mont is survived by his wife, Carol Mecham of Shelley, Idaho; daughter, Donna and husband Bill Richardson of Eagle Mountain, Utah; son Mark and wife Diane Mecham of Idaho Falls, Idaho; grandchildren, Haley and James Mecham of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sisters Linda Goddard of Shelley, Idaho and Lori Neihart (Artie Waters) of Wapello, Idaho; brothers, Lamar Mecham of Firth, Idaho, and Barry and wife Claudia Mecham of Pocatello, Idaho.
Mont is preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Udeen Mecham; brother, Lonnie Mecham; grandparents, Clinton and Elsie Curtis Mecham and Mark and Carmelia Wilson Palmer.
Funeral services will take place at noon Saturday at the Shadow Mountain LDS church, 3721 Shadow Mountain Trail in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with Bishop Brad Couch officiating.
The family will visit with friends Friday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church.
Any and all law enforcement are invited to attend in uniform to honor Mecham's 33 years of law enforcement. Following the service, the Bonneville County Honor Guard will perform rites.
