Lining up for a multitude of soups, ranging from the familiar to the adventurous, residents took their hand-crafted bowls and ate for a good cause.
Bowls of Caring is an annual Sweetwater YWCA fundraiser supporting its support and safe house, Family Justice Center and financial empowerment programs. While tickets to the event are sold, people often buy plain ceramic bowls to paint and decorate, which are then fired and act as tickets to the event. The food, along with several gift baskets, were donated by residents and businesses. Volunteers, including students from Western Wyoming Community College, Rock Springs High School and the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, served food and helped as guests sat down to their dinners.
The event drew roughly 600 people, including residents from Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center. Residents at CRRC took part in a bowl painting party earlier in the month. Some of those residents were able to attend and enjoy dinner outside their usual routine. Heidi Schuh, the activities director at CRRC, said the residents looked forward to their trip.
