A man accused of killing a small child and her great-grandmother in a vehicle crash was bound over to district court Monday.
George Maestas, 68, of Green River, waived his preliminary hearing and was bound over a week after making his initial appearance in Judge John Prokos’ Circuit Court. Maestas is charged with two felony charges of aggravated homicide by vehicle and felony driving under the influence with serious injury. His bond is set at $1 million cash. All cases involving felony charges are bound over to the district courts.
According to court records, Maestas drove into the house located at 695 Evers St., at the corner of Evers Street and Monroe Avenue, while allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance.
Five people were inside the home when the crash happened on March 10, which ultimately resulted in the deaths of Stella Doak and Debra Devries. Another person inside the home, Frank Johnson, sustained several injuries including broken ribs, a fractured vertebrae and a punctured lung which later collapsed.
