Loss to Lady Red Devils ends season

The Green River High School Lady Wolves Basketball team's last game of the year was their first and only game at regionals last week.

The team ended their season 10-12, with a loss to the Lady Red Devils last Thursday, 50-42.

“I thought we started out really well defensively in the first half,” head coach Rick Carroll said.

The team kept the Lady Red Devils in check for the first half, but let the team get away from them in the third quarter. It was something the team couldn’t come back from.

“We did things that hurt us the whole year,” Carroll said.

Some of those problems included missing easy shots and not sinking free throws. The Lady Wolves only made six out of their 18 attempts at the free throw line, for a 33 percent shooting percentage.

“We didn’t sink easy baskets,” Carroll said. “You throw that altogether and that was a disappointing last game.”

Leading the team in the Evanston game was Taylor Stoeger with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and four steals, followed by Hannah Hix with 10 points and four rebounds and Ashelynn Birch with seven points and 14 rebounds and three blocked shots.

As for the entire season, Carroll was really pleased with the effort the Lady Wolves put forth.

“They were really good to work with,” he said. “We’re really going to miss the seniors.”

Four Lady Wolves hung up their jerseys this year including Stoeger, Mallory Seymour, Grace Johnson and America Zarate.

“They’re girls with great attitudes and a great work ethic,” Carroll said. “They are good examples for other girls.”
