Coming into regionals this week on a six game losing streak, the Green River High School Boys Basketball Team need a win to keep their dreams of going to the state tournament alive.
Otherwise, the season’s over for them.
The Wolves will take on Natrona County Thursday in Rock Springs, followed by regionals Friday and Saturday. Green River competed against the team last week in Casper, losing that match 50-41. Their previous meeting resulted in a 86-76 win for the Wolves Feb. 3. While the Wolves have defeated the team in the past, head coach Laurie Ivie said the team doesn’t take previous wins in account when facing opponents.
“We take nothing for granted and we know we have to work hard against every and any team we face,” Ivie said.
Despite the string of losses, Ivie said the Wolves have shown improvement on the court. For example, during the Make-A-Wish game against Rock Springs two weeks ago, the Wolves lost 61-56, which is a far cry from the 90-53 drubbing the Wolves received in their first meeting.
“We have shown tremendous improvement, we now need to show consistency,” she said. “We believe we can compete with all the teams in our region. The important component for us will be playing with a high level of confidence and intensity.”
