Lela Maxine Gregory Gosar

Lela Maxine Gregory Gosar, 83, of Green River; a remarkable, one-of-a-kind person took her final eternal journey, surrounded by her family at her home in Green River Thursday, March 2, 2017.

She was born April 27, 1933, in Lonetree to Frank and Veloy (Terry) Gregory. During this time of the year, over one foot of snow fell. Dr. Stratton rode horseback from Lyman to Lonetree to deliver her.

Her family moved to Green River when she was in the fourth grade. Her parents bought a home on the corner, where Wells Fargo Bank is currently located. She started her first job at the Sugar Bowl, which was located next to her home.

Her mother had serious health issues; at a young age, she learned how to care for her younger brothers, and take care of most of the household chores. She did all of these things while working part time and going to school. She continued to nurture many others throughout her life.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951. She began work as a telephone operator her senior year of high school. She worked in Green River, Cheyenne, Logan, Utah and St. Louis, Miss.

She met her husband John Gosar, while he was working for his brother Joe at the Green River Food and Locker Plant. This was across the street from the telephone office that she worked at. Her Dad's grocery bill increased for some reason!

John and Maxine were married on Sept. 15, 1956 in Green River. They were married for 57 years, prior to John's passing in 2014.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many callings throughout the years.

Gosar enjoyed playing the accordion, but did not like to play it in public. She taught piano and accordion lessons for many years.

She is survived by daughter, Yanine (Kip) Rollins of Lyman; sons, Greg (Louise) Gosar of Manila, Utah; Wayne (Annie) Gosar of Bloomfield, N. M .; Mike (Heidi) Gosar of Highland, Utah. Brother, Ted (Ruth Anne) Gregory of Green River, and her "adopted" daughter, Beth Ice of Rock Springs.

Additionally, she is survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gosar; grandson, Daniel Gosar; brother and sister in law, Alma (Bonnie) Gregory; her parents and many friends.

Funeral services will take place Monday, March 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Green River 1st and 3rd Ward LDS Church 1000 W. 4th N. in Green River. A viewing for family and friends will take place prior to the services, starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery located in Green River.
