Indoor track starts season in Utah

The Green River High School Boy’s and Girl’s Indoor Track season got underway this past Saturday as the team headed south to compete with 40 teams from Utah, Idaho and Wyoming at the Utah State High School Indoor Track Invitational. There were more than 100 competitors in a few of the events, as this is one of the larger high school indoor meets in the region.

In the girls 60-meter dash, the top finishers for the Lady Wolves were Jimena Campos with a time of 9.75, Heather Gibson at 9.64 and the top finisher in 25th place out of 79 sprinters was Lauren Hoyt at 8.92. The winning time being 8.10.

In the boy’s 60-meter dash, Green River also had three places with Trey Mcghee running 7.95, Kyle Cacho running 7.67 and Kalen Kester making the finals and finishing in an impressive early-season time of 7.2 to take second place out of 106 sprinters.

In the boy’s 3,200 meter long distance race the Wolves three runners in the top half of the field. Brayden Koyick was sixth at 10:39.26 and Braden Reihl the top finisher for GRHS in fourth place with a time of 10:25.28.

In field events, the Lady Wolves got the top finisher of the day as Eliza Morin tied for first in the high jump with three other competitors with a jump of 5 feet.

Also in the field events the Lady Wolves got a fifth place finish from Natasha Young a throw of 10.26 meters or 35 feet, 7 inches.

Also gaining experience for the Lady Wolves in the shot put were Alaina Maiers, Janae Neff and Kiera Edmonds.

The boys also got two good early-season marks in the long jump as Kyle Cacho finished fifth with a jump of 19 feet, 4 inches and Kalen Kester took fourth at 20 feet, 4 inches. In the boy’s 800-meter run the Wolves finished in the middle of the pack at 33rd with Marcos Valerio and 31st with Alex Davis. In the girls 800-meter run, Kezley Moore finished in the top third, finishing 11th.

The boys shot put saw four boys compete, with the top finisher Gage Givins at 9.42 meters. In the 4x200 meter relay, the girls finished 12th out of 18 teams and the boys were seventh out of 12 teams. Kezley Moore finished 11 in the girls 400-meter dash out of 51 runners.

In a large field of 84 runners, Green River boy’s runner Alex Davis finished in 53rd place and Marcos Valerio finished 46th.

Kaisa Arnell also finished 10th in the 3,200 meters. In the girl’s 60-meter hurdles, four Lady Wolves competed in the preliminaries with Eliza Morin being the top finisher in 18th place.

Coach Dan Hansen said he was pleased with the performances of both teams in their first outing of the season.
