City seeks grants for Greenbelt, tree inventory

The Greenbelt might see some renovations if the city receives a $50,000 grant.

Tuesday night, the Green River City Council approved a request to apply for a Doppelt Trail Development Fund grant. According to information provided to the council, the grant would be used for a new coating on the pathway, as well as crack sealing and filling from the Uinta Drive Bridge to Scotts Bottom.

The grant the Green River Parks and Recreation Department seeks is known as a project transformation grant, which can range between $15,000 and $50,000.

The trail fund offers either one or two of the grants in this funding range and do not require matching funds from the city.

This isn’t the only grant approved by the city council. The council also approved a request to seek a $10,000 grant from the Wyoming State Forestry Division to pay for a professional tree inventory and tree plotting software.

The inventory will result in all of the trees in Green River inventoried and plotted on an interactive map that will be available for public use on the city’s website.

While the grant doesn’t require a cash match, the city’s parks and recreation department will seek a 50/50 match, providing its share of the 50 percent through in-kind work from the software company, as well as services from department staffers.
