ission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center residents Vivian Sargent and Kathy Forman enjoy their fair food. Sargent ate her entire corn on the cob, while Forman finished most of her navajo taco.
January of 2016 set the tone for the year with seniors starting off trying to get healthy both physically and mentally.
The Golden Hour Senior Center offered a wide-range of classes to help seniors improve their health. Some of the classes that targeted the improvement of physical health were Zumba Gold, chair exercises, line dancing and a better balance class.
Line dancing and Zumba really gave the seniors a cardiovascular workout, while both the chair exercises and better balance classes improved the seniors balance and mind over body controls.
On average 15 to 16 seniors, usually ladies, would attend these classes.
When seniors were not busy exercising at the senior center, they were busy playing games, including pinochle, bunco, bridge, bingo, pool, Mah Jongg and tripoley.
As if these things weren't enough, the seniors would create great pieces of art in painting, crafts, zentangle and macrame chairs.
Even with all of these things to do, the seniors still found time to attend special classes including diabetes and me, dealing with dementia, 21 keys to renewing your life, what to watch for when selecting health insurance, and the Diabetes Empowerment Education Program.
Seniors also had the chance to join a quilting group, check out library books from visiting librarians or playing their instrument in a jam session.
Seniors participated in special dinners or dances around Easter, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve.
For residents at Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center it was also a busy year. Every day, the residents have numerous games they can play, including hangman, Yahtzee, trivia, 7-up, bingo, balloon volleyball, jingo, basketball, football throw game, noodle hockey, duck racing, Uno and puzzles.
They also spend time making crafts every Wednesday and Friday. When they aren't busy with regular activities they participate in special ones, including fishing trips to Flaming Gorge Reservoir and Wyoming's Big Show. They also host community events, including games and cake walks for children at Easter and Halloween trick or treating.
Some of the residents at CRRC who are avid football fans gather in the foyer to watch the Wyoming Cowboys and Denver Broncos play.
The CRRC residents also watch performances from many visitors, including dancers and gospel singers
With all of these fun activities to participate in, 2017 is sure to be an entertaining one for seniors in Green River.
