Most of the Green River elementary schools were busy having Christmas parties Friday before the holiday break started.
Washington Elementary School was no different, and every classroom in the building seemed to be celebrating in different ways.
Some of the classes were making paper wreaths for students to display at home. Kindergarten student Marlei Zimmerman said she already knew were she was going to put her wreath when she got home.
Other classes, were busy watching various Christmas movies or eating special breakfasts, which in some classes included fruit, juice and pancakes. Some classes even served the children hot chocolate and warm apple cider.
All of the students were encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas to school and bring a blanket or stuffed animal with them for the fun day.
The older children in the school gathered to show off the toys they collected for Toys For Tots. The marched down the hallways and gathered outside for a quick photo. With a nice break in the weather, the temperature being around 45 degrees, they didn't even bother to put their coats and hats on. They just gathered on the steps for a quick photo and then they were back in the school for more celebrating.
The students at Washington also had one last opportunity to let the big guy in the red suit, Santa Claus, know what they wanted to Christmas. Santa was busy going from classroom to classroom handing out candy canes, talking to the children and taking photos with children on his lap.
Santa Claus wasn't the only special guest in the building that day. The Green River Police Department had a few officers there to enjoy the special day the children were having.
