L. J. Curtis

L. J. Curtis, 63, passed away peacefully at the Sage View Care Center with his loving wife and son by his side Dec. 10, 2016.  L.J. fought a very courageous battle with cancer since 2005.

He was born Oct. 10, 1953 in Great Bend, Kan. He was the son of Lester Junior "Curley" Curtis and Eileen Viola Curtis. The family moved to Rock Springs in 1962.

L.J. attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from the Rock Springs High School in 1971. He married the love of his life, Janie Zelenka April 29, 1978 in Rock Springs.

He was the co-owner of High Plains Transport, LLC and HPT, LLC in Mountain View at the time of his death.

Curtis shared his passion of antique cars with his wife, and they had a collection of many that they enjoyed taking to car shows. 

He enjoyed being a member of the Bridger Valley Pool League and his team took several awards.  He was also a member of the American Legion Riders Post 36. 

Survivors include his wife Janie Curtis of Rock Springs; one son, Kenny Curtis and wife Tammy of Rock Springs; his very special grandson Camden Curtis; three sisters, Cheri Macy and husband Bruce, Vickie Kenadall, Tammy Morlock and husband Monte, all of Rock Springs; one brother, William Curtis and wife Marguerite of Rock Springs; his mother-in-law Doris Zelenka of Rock Springs; several aunts, uncles, cousins nieces, nephews and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law William Zelenka.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday at the First Congregational Church in Rock Springs. Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.  Friends may call at Vase Funeral Chapel Friday, from 4-6 p.m., and on Saturday morning at the church until time of services.
