The Wolves' undefeated streak ended in Afton Friday night, falling to the Braves 20-7.
In a rematch of the 3A State Championship last year, the Wolves responded to the Braves' physical play style, with the Wolves defense stopping a number of plays that gave them trouble during the championship game.
Despite that strong effort, the Wolves still struggled in its special teams plays, with short punts giving the Braves great field position at the start of their possessions. The Braves were able to make the first score of the game with a field goal in the first quarter, followed by a touchdown in the second quarter, which put them ahead by 10 at the end of the first half.
The Braves continued their assault after receiving the kickoff at the start of the second half, putting together a series of plays that would end with another touchdown for Star Valley.
The Wolves were unable to find the endzone for much of the game as the Braves were able to control the momentum and clock in the third and fourth quarters.
Another field goal from Star Valley would put them up to 20 points. The Wolves would avoid a complete shutout through a touchdown from Cole White near the end of the game.
Star Valley received an on-side kick from the Wolves and ran the clock down to end the game.
The Wolves' loss leaves them at 2-1 in the 3A conference while the Braves move to 2-1 after a loss to Powell, who lost to the Wolves in a 14-0 shutout in Green River.
Green River will play Cody Friday at Cody. They will then play Worland at home Oct. 21.
