Swimmers compete well in Gillette

A trip to Gillette gave the Green River High School girls swimming team a chance to get accustomed to the pool they will swim in at state, as well as a chance to compete against many of the other schools across the state.

The girls swam in the Gillette Friday and Saturday, taking fifth in Gillette Invite. The Lady Wolves finished behind Campbell County High School, Laramie High School, Sheridan High School and Cheyenne Central High School.

During the pre-invite Friday, the Lady Wolves ranked high in a number of events, taking second in the 200-yard medley relay, fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, fourth in the 200-yard IM, second in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. The team also placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The girls performed well in a number of events at the invite, including taking third in the 200-yard medley relay, a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. The team had a first-place finish as well, with Avery Otto-Horn taking first in the 100-yard butterfly.

The girls return home this week for regionals at the Green River High School Aquatics center. Following regionals, GRHS will host the last chance meet Oct. 20, then travel to Gillette for the state tournament.
