For the second time this year, the Green River Lady Wolves Volleyball team beat their biggest rivals.
Last week, the Lady Wolves, who had home court advantage, came out on top of Rock Springs in three sets 25-14, 25-8, 25-17.
Tuesday night, the Lady Wolves were able to secure a dominating victory over Lyman in three sets, 25-11, 25-12, and 25-18. The victory over the Tigers takes the Lady Wolves to 3-3 in the conference.
Head coach Rikki Shantz said it was definitely an advantage to play at home. The Lady Wolves were on the road through all of September, but will continue to play at home until regionals.
“It’s good to be home after a month away,” Shantz said. “There were a ton of people there. More than usual.”
Shantz said the home game was the team’s fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness month; and the crowd was there to see the rivalry game. She said both team’s usually wear pink uniforms for the event.
“We’ve been doing the same thing we’ve done all year -- (working on) defense and passing,” Shantz said.
She said the team will continue to work on serve and receive play and its defense. Recently, the team’s lineup changed and that change has given them good results.
“We’ve been playing around with our lineup a lot,” Shantz said.
Last night, the Lady Wolves played Lyman, a team they had never played before or seen before.
Shantz believes she finally has the lineup the team needs to be competitive against any team, including Kelly Walsh and Natrona County. The team has practiced with the new lineup all week and is getting more comfortable.
Tomorrow at 6 p.m. and at home, the Lady Wolves will take on Kelly Walsh, which has been undefeated in conference play so far this season; and on Friday the team will take on Natrona County at 7 p.m. at home.
Shantz is encouraging residents to attend as many home games as they can. She said having the crowds support really helps motivate the girls.
“I’m just excited to see how we improved in the last couple of weeks since we’ve seen them,” Shantz said about Kelly Walsh.
Although the team will continue to work on its defense and how they respond to other teams blocking their shots, they also need to work on the metal side of the game. She said the Lady Wolves need to believe in themselves and know they are a lot more talented than some of the losses have shown.
The Lady Wolves will continue to have home-court advantage for the remainder of the regular season.
