On Oct. 6, 2016, Sophie Bessie Lucero our mother, sister, and grandmother was taken to be with her Lord Jehovah. She was surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren when she passed. Sophie was born April 18, 1923, in Lucero, New Mexico. She was born to Fidel and Teofila Trujillo Maestas. She later moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming and spent the rest of her life in Utah and Wyoming. She married Richard Lucero in 1948 who preceded her in death in 2002.
Sophie was a devout Jehovah Witness for 68 years. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and fishing and especially loved riding on the four wheeler.
She is survived by her daughters, Lily (Gibby) Lucero of Green River, Wyoming, Gloria (Walter) Martinez of Green River, Wyoming, Lucy (Art) Rodrigues of Ogden, Utah, Pat (Charlie) Schweikert of Buffalo, Wyoming, and Sandra (Charles) Martinez of Ogden, Utah. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Tracy Martin; niece, Eliria Lopez; son-in-law, Joe Gomez, who were very special to her. Also a brother, Joe Maestas of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister, Lucy Vigil of St George, Utah; sister-in-law, Florence Maestas of Layton, Utah; 19 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 32 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Pauline Bustos; three grandsons; one granddaughter; three sisters and five brothers.
A celebration of life will take place at the Green River Eagles Friday, starting a 1 p.m.
