David Roy Delling, 80, of Taos, N.M., passed away Oct. 5, 2016.
He was born Aug. 5, 1936, in Kirkwood, Mo., to William Delling and Florence Flumerfelt Delling. Delling served in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Melbourne High School in Melbourne, Fla.
After completing his military service, David attended Rolla School of Mines in Rolla, Mo., where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering. He worked in the mining industry, where he served as the plant manager of Stauffer Chemical's soda ash operations in Green River, followed by employment with Tenneco Minerals to design, construct and eventually manage the trona mine and beneficiation plant at Green River.
He was appointed to president of Tenneco Minerals in 1983 and he continued to serve in that capacity after the sale of the company to Solvay Minerals in May 1992.
He retired as president from Solvay Minerals and moved to Taos, N.M., in December 1993. Delling continued to consult to and serve on various boards of directors of mining companies after retirement.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Martha Delling, parents, sister-in-law, Arlene Delling and nephew, Jeff Delling.
Delling is survived by his wife of 20 years, Andrea B. Delling, two daughters, Jane Delling Baty and husband Ken Baty and their three children, Sydney Baty, Stephanie Baty and David Baty; and Anne E. Delling and husband Steve Moser and daughter, Athena Delling Cousins; step son Joe Delling and wife Yona Delling and two children, Carson Delling and Bella Delling; brother, Eugene Delling and three nieces, Susan Wahlig and family, Pam Carter and family and Sandy Feher and family; nieces, Melissa Coffey and Alicia Delling and nephew, Scott Delling.
