For the Green River High School Tennis team, the main goal is to focus on the fundamentals.
Head coach Phil Harder said the team’s drills focus specific fundamental skill and work on it throughout the entire practice.
With two returning state champions in the doubles team of Alexander and Gregory Marchal, as well a number of experienced players returning to the team, the team is poised to be a contender at state.
During their matches in the last week, Green River came out with a very commanding victory over Rock Springs. Both the girls and the boys beat the Rock Springs Tigers 4-1, a result Harder was very happy with.
“It was very exciting,” Harder said about the win.
The day after, the team traveled to Natrona County to take on Natrona County High School and Sheridan High School. During the trip, the girls continued with their winning ways, beating both Sheridan and NCHS 3-2. The boys however, faltered in their matches, taking 3-2 losses against both schools.
For Harder, he believes the issue for the boys comes down to technique and strategy, issues he intends to work on during the next week before the team takes on Rock Springs a second time Thursday at GRHS. Play starts at 4 p.m.
The team will also take on Rawlins at home Friday afternoon, with play scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
