With 35 swimmers, the Green River High School girls swim team has benefited from the high school’s aquatics center.
Head coach Colleen Seiloff said the program has seen advantages from the increased attention the center has given swimming. Early in the season, the team has already qualified a number of swimmers for the state competition in Gillette at the end of October. Seiloff said the team has a group of girls also “knocking on the door” of a qualifying time as well.
With the USA Swim program, middle school swimming and the club program, a few swimmers have had ample opportunity to keep their skills up during the summer months. This has in turn helped the team remain very competitive during the early meets, as opposed to rebuilding lost ability.
During the last week, Green River hosted Lander at the aquatics center, where swimmer Avery Otto-Horn was able to establish a pool record in the 100-yard freestyle. Despite strong showings in the pool, Green River lost the meet to Lander, 99-87.
However, during the Riverton pre-invite Sept. 6, Green River pulled off a win, finishing first with 259 points. Jackson took second with 251.
