Strong performances in the pool have resulted in the Lady Wolves swimming and diving team qualifying for a few events early in the season.
So far, Avery Otto-Horn, Alexis King, Sherylann Moritz, Sydni Sanders and Ashley Jensen have qualified for state.
“We had girls put in time outside the season and came in ready to go,” head coach Colleen Seiloff said. “You could really tell those girls put in practice time.”
The competition against Jackson was the result of a miscommunication. Jackson’s schedule listed the meet for Aug. 25, while Green River’s schedule listed Jackson as competing with Lander at the GRHS Aquatic Center Thursday. Seiloff said the school district accommodated Jackson and said the meet was good for the girls.
The girls also traveled to Rawlins for competition, where they placed first with a combined score of 1,062.5. Rock Springs High School placed second with a score of 894.
Seiloff said the team has grown, with 35 members participating in the sport. The team has only two seniors and a very strong group of freshmen, sophomores and juniors -- a situation she credits to the completion of the GRHS Aquatics Center and increased popularity of middle-school swimming, USA swimming and club swimming.
Seiloff said other girls are “knocking at the door” in regards to qualifying for state.
“We’re really excited about that,” Seiloff said.
