Practice always makes perfect

While the school year started for most students last Wednesday, high school athletes started working hard a few days earlier.

Practices for high school athletics started Monday of last week, with dozens of students getting a chance to work off the rust developed over a long summer vacation.

While practices are needed to improve skills and get more experience, they're also needed to make sure students are eligible for competition.

According to the Wyoming High School Activities Association, athletes need to complete at least nine days of practice before becoming eligible for competition.

Exceptions to this rule are in golf, which requires three practice days, and tennis, which requires five.

For many of the teams, their first contests start this week, with the Wolves football, tennis, and cross county teams appearing at home.
