The Green River Knights started the past week with a double header July 13 against the Cheyenne Hawks. In the opener, the Knights were explosive as they scored 15 runs to defeat the Hawks 15-7.
In the second game, they lost a close match 8-7, then concluded their series with the Hawks in another close loss 5-3 to end up 2-2 with Cheyenne..
Friday, the Knights returned home for the first time in almost a month and hosted the Wheatland Lobos in a doubleheader.
The Knights leadoff hitter Tyler Vendetti got things started right away with a leadoff double and a stolen base before being driven in with another double by Trevor Zumwalt.
There was no scoring by either team in the second and third innings but the Knights scored two more runs in the fourth with a walk by Ian Ebert, an infield single by Karson Beutel another walk by Guillermo Chavez and an RBI infield single by Tom Kelly and finally a walk by Vendetti with the bases loaded brought in the third and final run.
The Lobos scored a single run in the seventh inning off the Knights Ian Ebert who went all the way on the mound with another fine pitching performance striking out 6, giving up just one walk and one hit batter while allowing only four hits. Ebert's pitching was supported by some fine defensive plays by both the infield and outfielders to earn the victory 3-1.
In the evening game, despite a huge line drive over the centerfield fence in the deepest part of the ball field by Guillermo Chavez the Knights lost to Wheatland who came back late in the game to score three runs and defeat the Knights 5-2.
The Knights ended the regular season with a winning 4-2 record against the Lobos.
The Knights are now 31-16 and have just one game remaining against Price, Utah, before heading to Wheatland for the South District Tournament Thursday.
