GR children excited to graduate kindergarten

Before the famous graduation song "Pomp and Circumstance" even started playing, a couple of students could be seen poking their heads around the corner.

A couple of Truman Elementary School kindergarten students kept peeking around the door frame trying to spot a relative in the gym.

While the other students in Marcie Gargano, Moriah Howard and Carolyn Locker's classes waited in line behind them. When the song finally started to play, the students weren't quite sure what to do. However, a teacher quickly reminded them that they needed to walk to the risers and wait for all of the other children to get into their spots.

Once in their places, the students lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. The students sang a few songs including, "My Little Sunshine" and "We are the kindergarteners," which was performed to the music of "We are the Champions."

Each student also had the chance to go up to the microphone say their name and tell the audience what they would like to do when they grow up. A lot of them wanted to be police officers, Army guys or teachers, however, there were a few who had different ideas. Some of those students wanted to be a doctor, scientist, chemist or be on the show "Dancing With the Stars."

As with any program, there is always an issue that arises. For this event, it was when music wouldn't play to a PowerPoint presentation created.

The kindergarteners improvised, and lead by one of the teachers, they entertained the crowd by counting by 10s, 5s and 2s. They also sang the days of the week song and months of the year song. Just when had just about run out of things to sing, the PowerPoint presentation was working.

The music played during that presentation as photos of the students participating in activities showed on a big screen. This brought out parent's emotions, as some of them casually wiped away a tear or two. Some of the songs played were "Let Them be Little" and "You've got a Friend in Me."

When the presentation was over, students were called one by one to receive their diploma, which was a laminated piece of paper. They were excited with it and had to be reminded to remain quiet until all had received their diplomas.

After the ceremony, parents and other relatives gathered around the students trying to find their child. Some parents brought balloons, flowers or stuffed animals for their proud little kindergartener.
