Comic Cons are known for the costumes, the celebrities and the fun. But they're also known for being far away and expensive.
Residents will not have to travel far, far away and spend a lot of money to get the Comic Con experience. The Sweetwater County Library System is hosting WyoCon Saturday, April 23, at White Mountain Library, 2935 Sweetwater Drive in Rock Springs. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission fee to attend the event.
"I have a lot of friends who travel a long way to spend a lot of money to attend Comic Cons," Aaron Volner, young adult librarian and organizer, said. "I figured we could provide something right here in Sweetwater County for them to get their Comic Con fix in between trips to Salt Lake."
WyoCon will feature a live stream appearance from Kevon Ward who competed in season 9 of the reality series "Face Off" on the SyFy channel. Ward is originally from Rock Springs. Other features of the event will be a visit from the 501st Legion and panels on Harry Potter and Green River's haunted library. Attendees can get a schedule of events at the library on the day of WyoCon.
WyoCon will also feature vendors, including The Brass Goggles, The Dugout, The Costume Shop and local crafter Hailey Redden.
And a comic con wouldn't be complete without costumes.
"You don't have to wear a costume to WyoCon," Volner said. "But it sure will make it a lot more fun."
WyoCon is sponsored by the Sweetwater County Library System. For more information about library events and services, visit any Sweetwater County Library System location, visit the library system online at sweetwaterlibraries.com, or follow the libraries on Facebook at facebook.com/sweetlibraries.
