Leo Eugene Montoya, Jr.

Leo Eugene Montoya, Jr., 63, of Green River, passed away April 11, 2016 at the University of Utah Medical Center.  A longtime resident of Green River, Montoya died following a lengthy illness.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1952 in Laramie, the son of Leo A. Montoya Sr. and Felicia Cordova Montoya. Montoya attended schools in Green River, and was a Green River High School graduate with the class of 1972.

He married Janice Lee on June 10, 1972 in Green River, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was employed at Little America for many years and later for the Union Pacific Railroad in the maintenance department for 14 and a half years.

Montoya was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He loved his church and was very involved in his church and also loved spending time with his family and friends. He served as a teacher of catechism, Eucharistic minister, lector and altar boy.

Survivors include his wife Janice Montoya of Green River; his parents Leo A. and Felicia Montoya Sr. of Green River; two sons, Stephen Montoya and wife Rachel of Granger, and Cory Montoya and wife Theresa of Green River; daughter Heather Montoya of Green River; three brothers, Ronnie Montoya and wife Marcella, Willie Montoya and wife Tina and Tony Montoya and wife DeeAnn all of Green River; two sisters, Doris Chacon and husband Larry and Darlene Munoz and husband Miguel both of Green River; to grandchildren Marc Montoya, Cyro Montoya, Domanick Montoya, Tavean Montoya, Tyson Leckie, Keaton Bowker, Gabriel Montoya, Ondreona Montoya, Haylee Ackerman and Emily Ackerman; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister Maxine Montoya; three grandchildren, Celina Montoya, Angel Montoya and James Montoya; his maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts and uncles.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the rosary and on Friday morning until time of services. 

Pallbearers are Ronnie Montoya, Tony Montoya, Willie Montoya, Stephen Montoya, Cory Montoya, Cyro Montoya and Wilfred Cordova.

Honorary Pallbearers are Arnold Ortiz, Marc Montoya, Domanick Montoya, Tyson Leckie, Gabriel Montoya and Keaton Bowker and Jay Lee
