The Green River Fire Department extinguished a garage fire last week, which resulted in one person being transported to the hospital.
An unidentified man was working in his garage on Logan Street March 23 when something caught fire in his garage. Officers arrived on scene at 10:44 p.m. to find the homeowner outside spraying water on the flames in his garage with a garden hose. Officers helped the man get away from the structure. He was taken to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County by Castle Rock Ambulance Service.
Officer Luke Benson said the man did sustain burn injuries, but is unaware to what extent at this time.
When Interim Fire Chief Mike Liberty arrived on scene, there were no more flames to be seen, but inside the garage, it was still smoldering.
“All we did was cool things down and do a little overhaul work,” Liberty said. “We just checked to make sure the fire was completely out, no hot spots left.”
The GRFD crew cooled off any hot spots left in the garage. The fire had been contained to the two-stall, detached garage. The home near the garage did not sustain any damage from the fire.
The garage fire is still under investigation, and is considered to be an accident at this time.
“We’re not looking at it as a crime at this time,” Benson said. “With the preliminary information we have at this point, we’re not looking at that route.”
