New details involving the train derailment outside of Granger last week remain scarce as the National Transportation Safety Board continues its investigation.
Last Monday evening, a coal train and intermodal train derailed a few miles outside Granger, between the town and the Tronox mine. The NTSB, which is investigating the derailment, have not released any information regarding the incident. A spokesperson for the NTSB said the investigations typically take between four and 18 months, but said the board often releases information prior to completing their investigations.
U.P. spokesperson Calli Hite said U.P. rerouted trains around the two Granger lines to minimize delays. Following the derailment, one track was opened after 16 hours, while the second was reopened after 46 hours.
Other questions regarding the derailment were not answered by press time.
