Children from Green River had a chance to enjoy a number of fun activities at the Sweetwater County Library Saturday.
The library hosted it's March Mini-Workshops, a series of small classes for patrons to learn a variety of skills, including repurposing tattered books and cupcake decoration. The activities were designed for people of all ages and a number of children and teens were able to participate along with the adults.
Some made mini pom-poms, using small lengths of yarn bundled together, while others made buttons that could be pinned to shirts. The button station featured a number of science fiction themes and helped promote the library system's upcoming Wyocon, a comic convention it will host April 23.
Other stations allowed people to decorate cupcakes, which included a design for a cowboy hat.
For the cowboy hat, a Pingles potato chip is placed on top of a frosted cupcake, which is then topped with a gummy candy and a small piece of red licorice surrounding the candy.
While some may question the culinary philosophies that allow for a potato chip and cupcake to be eaten together, the groups of kids happily devouring their creations couldn't care less; their treats were delicious.
Repurposing books is a craft unto itself. The library has previously hosted a number of displays utilizing repurposed books, including a Christmas tree on display during December.
Librarian Bianca Jorgensen said the crafts are a great way to use books that have become damaged or otherwise unusable as books. The books used formerly part of the library's collection.
