Russell James Wallerich

Russell James Wallerich, 82, of Green River, passed away Feb. 27, 2016 at the Mission at Castle Rock in Green River. A longtime resident of Green River and a former resident of Keota, Iowa, Wallerich died following a brief illness. 

He was born in Clear Creek, Keokuk County, Iowa, June 2, 1933, the son of Homer John and Irene Margaret Dumont Wallerich. 

Wallerich attended schools in Keota, Keokuk County, Iowa and was a 1951 graduate of Keota High School. 

Wallerich was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War. 

He was a self-employed carpenter for many years.  

His interests included spending time outdoors and collecting arrowheads. 

He was a Roman Catholic and a member of Knights of Columbus. 

Survivors include three brothers, Keith Wallerich and wife Jeanne of Keota, Iowa, Melvin Wallerich and wife Barb of Burlington, Iowa, and Ron Wallerich and wife Annette of Fairfax, Iowa; five sisters, Jeanine Hall and husband Harold of Ames, Iowa, Rita Harnish of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Barbara Soutter and husband Don of Mitchelville, Iowa, Suzanne Sheaffer and husband Dick of Windsor Heights, Iowa, and Linda Forret and husband Mike of Adel, Iowa; brother-in-law Harold Peiffer of Des Moines, Iowa; 43 nieces and nephews; 45 step-nieces and nephews; 72 great-nieces and nephews; 25 step-great nieces and nephews; 11 great-great-nieces and nephews; several cousin; his special friends Jim and Lori Rockhold of Green River and all of his many friends in Green River.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Rose Marie Peiffer, two brothers Ted Wallerich and Charles Wallerich. 

Cremation will take place and a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
