Last weekend’s Wyoming Invite at Laramie was a warm-up for the Green River High School Indoor Track team.
“We had some solid performances in Laramie,” head coach Steve Boyd, said.
Boyd said he believes Kalen Kester could be a medalist this weekend after watching him win the boys 55-meter dash. Kester won with a final time of 6.65, edging out Cheyenne Central’s DJ Shamborguer’s time of 6.71. Kester also took second in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet and 9.5 inches. Boyd said he’s expecting great results from Drew Wilson in the triple jump event this weekend as well.
Wilson finished fourth with a distance of 39 feet and 3/4 of an inch. GRHS’s Matt Medina is expected to throw in the mid-40s at state’s shot put competition, according to Boyd. Medina finished seventh at the invite with a distance of 43 feet and 1.5 inches.
For the girls, Josie Givens took third in the 400-meter dash. Boyd said he had Givens compete in the speed event help her prepare for state.
State takes place in Gillette Friday and Saturday.
