Green River played in a rough game against Rock Springs Thursday. Rock Springs grabbed the lead early in the game and held it throughout the night. The Tigers took a commanding lead at the end of the first quarter, extending the point deficit to 12 in favor of the Tigers, 19-7.
“We played probably our worst game of the season,” head Coach Laurie Ivie said. “We did not play well from start to finish.”
Once the Tigers got a large lead over the Wolves, it was a difficult obstacle to overcome. It was a large obstacle in points, but more so mentally.
“We own our biggest obstacle, and that is our mental toughness,” Ivie said.
Gaining points in the game proved difficult for the Wolves in the game.
The Wolves’ players who made Green River’s points were Chance Hofer, 1 point, Cameron Morris made 4 points, Hunter Spartz made 4, Chase Stoeger 4, Jake Angelovich 1, William Harvey 2, and Devin Love made 10 points and was 6 for 6 from the line.
James Bunderman closed the game with 6 points, making back-to-back 3 point baskets.
At half time, the Tigers’ lead extended further, going into the locker room with a 24-point lead over the Wolves.
The tigers would continue building their lead to 41 points halfway through the fourth quarter, enacting a mercy rule with a continually-running game clock. The mercy rule comes into play when one team establishes 40-point lead over the other team. At the end of the night, Rock Springs would leave Green River with a 71-36 victory.
The Green River High School boys’ basketball team will have three games coming up this week. Today, they face Star Valley. Friday they will play Natrona High School, in Casper, and Saturday, Kelly Walsh High School.
