Lady wolves earn solid win over Riverton
The Lady Wolves varsity basketball team stepping onto the court against Riverton Friday was a different team than they have been much of the season.
They came out hard and played like a top-ranked team.
The Lady Wolves took early control of the game and did not let up, eventually beating Riverton 65-38. Head coach Rick Carroll said the team played with a lot of confidence, something the team has struggled with in past weeks.
"It was a confidence builder for them," he said.
The girls moved the ball well and played a strong defense. The Lady Wolves were able to capitalize on mistakes made by the Riverton squad, which in turn led to more opportunities at the basket.
"We made some easy points," Carroll said.
While the team reduced the number of turnovers against them, the Lady Wolves were also able to diversify their scoring, not just limiting points to a few key shooters. The top scorers were Emily White with 25 points and Taylor Stoeger with 11.
While victory eluded them in Evanston Thursday night, the Lady Wolves were able to keep up with the Lady Red Devils throughout the game, losing 49-47. Carroll said the team's defensive ability and improvements in their offensive game were on full display in Evanston as well, effectively playing and again spreading the scores more evenly amongst the players. The top scorers in Evanston were White, with 16 and Mallory Seymour with nine.
As the season begins to wrap up, Carroll said he continues to work on the Lady Wolves' offense skills.
Their goal now is to get seeded into the state tournament while focusing on each game they play.
The Lady Wolves will have a shot at revenge against their rivals the Rock Springs Lady Tigers at home Thursday night.
The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
