Calvin W. Chilton, 90 of Rock Springs, passed away Feb. 11, 2016 at the Mission at Castle Rock in Green River.
A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Chilton died following a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 7, 1925 in Rock Springs, the son of the late William and Lillie Lawes Chilton.
Chilton attended schools in Rock Springs and was a 1946 graduate of the Rock Springs High School.
He married Shirley Matthews on Nov. 27, 1954 in Rock Springs, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 1982.
He had been employed most of his life at the Chilton Livestock Company and had also worked for John Arambel Livestock Company.
He later worked in maintenance at the Quality Inn, well into his 80s. He always had a dog by his side.
He lead the Sweetwater County Historical Society to the Steamboat Mountain and Boars Tusk Area in 1977.
He explained the history of the area and told about family homesteads, including his grandfather George Chilton's homestead on Steamboat Mountain.
His interests were woodworking and spending time with his family and his dogs. He enjoyed going to Wendover, Nev., with his nieces and nephews. Chilton was an avid University of Wyoming Football supporter.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth E. McKain of Ogden, Utah and Marian Urbigkit of Cheyenne; sister in law Joanie Cederburg of Rock Springs; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one sister, Ethel C. Peterson.
Funeral services took place Monday.
