Merrill Tingey Phelps, 86 of Centerville, Utah died Jan. 5, 2016.
He was born Aug. 19, 1929 to parents George Edward Phelps and Annie Mary Tingey Phelps. Merrill was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Merrill honorably served his country in The United States Navy. He also served a Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter-day Saints mission in Yorkshire, England. There he met his devoted wife of 62 years, Caroline Alice Garner. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 9, 1953.
Together they raised seven children, Neldena, Gar, David (Teri), Ferrill (Connie), Jan (Pamela), Milinda (John), and Darin (Amanda). They have 33 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.
Merrill enjoyed his career of more than 50 years as a skilled barber.
He spent many of those years at The Chop Shop in Centerville, Utah. He was well loved by his clients, and he enjoyed them so much that he didn't retire until he was 75 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie and his seven children; sister, Kathleen (Dave); brothers Eddie (Carolyn) and Jerry (Corlis) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Jeremy John Wirthlin and great grandson Blaze Zarco Garner Williams.
Merrills quick wit and generous heart will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Family and friends may call on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful, Utah at 295 North Main St. Funeral services will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at the 19th Ward, 900 South 400 East in Centerville, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
