James H. "Jim" Chailland, 77, of Green River, passed away Dec. 27, 2015 at his home. A long time resident of Green River, Chailland died following an illness of four years.
He was born on June 26, 1938 in Cardwell, Mo., the son of the late Earl and Daisy Chailland.
Chailland attended schools in Missouri and Green River and later college.
He married Ida Martinez Chailland in Evanston Oct. 1, 1957.
Chailland was a United States Army veteran and served from 1957 until he received his honorable discharge in 1963.
He was employed at Stauffer Chemical and Rhone Polenc for 30 years and retired as mine operation superintendant.
Chailland was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles #2350 and also was a member of Rolling Green Country Club since 1982. He had served as past president of Rolling Green Country Club and president for Sweetwater Transit Authority board.
He served on the mine rescue team, winning many awards and was inducted into the hall of fame.
He achieved his fifth degree Black Belt in Karate. Chailland taught karate at the college and also taught many friends throughout the Green River and Rock Springs area. He enjoyed golfing and lunching with his friends at different restaurants. These restaurants saved a special booth for him.
He loved Cadillac automobiles, travel, golf, had a meticulous yard and spent much time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Ida Chailland of Green River; daughter Debra R. Smith and husband LaMar of Green River; two sons, Monty James Chailland of Rock Springs, and Greg Alan Chailland of Green River; brother Larry Curry and wife Maxine of Mesquite, Nev.; sister Jill Kinnaman Cordova of Green River; seven grandchildren, Pamela Brewer, Dustin Bingham, Jimmy Chailland, Josh Chailland, Michael Chailland, Daniela Johnson and Mike Mares; great-granddaughter Kasidee Brewer; brother-in-law Joe A. Martinez; sisters-in-law Emma Martinez, Audilia Ortega, Carol Lucero, Evie Sandoval and Darlene Duran and all of his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert (Skinny) and Daisy Kinnaman and father Earl Chailland; daughter Mitzi Chailland; and sister Velma Louise Chailland.
Following cremation, a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River, Wyoming.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Today at the church. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the rosary and on Thursday morning one hour prior to the service.
