The Christmas spirit was in full swing at the Golden Hour Senior Center's Christmas dinner.
The Christmas dinner was ready, as were the residents who attended the event. They were dressed up for the occasion. Some were wearing traditional red and green outfits, while others had on Santa hats or Christmas sweaters, while others wore pins and earrings that lit up.
The dinner had two seatings, the first, and most popular, took place at 11:30 a.m and the second took place at 1 p.m. Volunteers from the Union Congregational Church and Lincoln Middle School were on hand to help serve, clean up and set up from the next round.
In between the seatings, students from Lincoln Middle School were busy cleaning off tables and putting new placemats on the tables. There was only a minor snag -- not enough candy canes, but a quick trip to the store fixed that problem quickly.
Seniors were busy chatting with friends and family at the tables as volunteers set to work making the event as special as possible.
Ed and Corky Marx, who volunteer for meals on wheels, said they always come to the senior center when they have a great meal they like. This was one of those meals.
"Oh yeah, It's always a good meal," Corky said.
Ed said he liked ham better than turkey and was looking forward to having a good meal with his Green River friends. He and Corky will be traveling to see family over the holidays and it was nice to get together with their friends one last time before they left town.
"We're just supporting the center," Corky said. "This is our Christmas with our friends."
The Marx' appreciated being waited on by the students and church members.
"That's what's neat about a little community, everybody helps everybody," Ed said.
