Girls fall to Star Valley Friday

Green River High School's Girls Basketball Team had a bumpy start to their season after losing their first game against Star Valley, 53-26.

"We allowed Star Valley some easy baskets," head coach Rick Carroll said.

Carroll said the team struggled with both offense and defense throughout the game. The team suffered from a high number of turnovers as well as fouls, which allowed Star Valley ample opportunity to score from the free-throw line.

During the game, Emily White lead the Lady Wolves in scoring with a total of 10 points. Avery Cobb scored eight points, Taylor Stoeger scored six and Malory Seymour scored two.

Carroll said the team will work to fix the breakdowns in the team's play and focus on their timing and opening players up to passes.

The team won't have a lot of time to prepare for their next matchup however, as the team takes part in the Flaming Gorge Classic Thursday evening. They will face the Lyman Eagles Thursday.

Lyman, a 2A team, has so far has an undefeated season, beating the Lady Bearcats of Douglas, Lander's Lady Tigers and the Lady Chiefs of Wyoming Indian School.
